Acuscope FAQ

What is the Electro-Acuscope?

The Electro-Acuscope 85 P is a pain management system designed for functional precision and reliability. Designed to fit the needs of Sports Therapy and Occupational Medicine, it is the most advanced instrument in its class.

What is the Electro-Myopulse?

The Electro-Myopulse 75L is the latest release of the most advanced technology in pain control and injury trauma rehabilitation. The instrument is an input/output controlled device designed for precise treatment delivery required to control even the most difficult pain, trauma and injury cases, including a wide variety of muscle and connective tissue problems.

What are the benefits of Electro-Acuscope and Electro-Myopulse Therapy using Thorp Protocols?

EFFECTIVE – Expect a noticeable decrease and sometimes the resolution of pain within the first three treatments (12 recommended). Expect an increased range of motion and sense of wellbeing, usually in the first treatment.

ADVANCED/ INTELLIGENT – Has a read/ treat mechanism based on missile guidance chip technology. Similar to EEG or EKG scanning ability with an additional function of a correcting signal that is seeking out the abnormality and leaving the tissue at it’s most perfect electrical state at that time thus bringing the tissue to rest.

LEGITIMATE – FDA registered Class II devices and used for over 30 years in hospitals and clinics and in a wide range of mainstream and alternative medical disciplines.

SAFE – There are no long-term adverse effects and any short term side effects are actually positive signs of detoxification.

COMFORTABLE/NON-INVASIVE – 2 probes or plates (metal or flex-carbon) are placed with botanical- based conductive gel onto the body. Then the micro-current is introduced at a level that is often so low you feel nothing, possibly some tapping, and if it starts to prick or sting we turn the intensity down to maintain the patient comfort and a treatment pace that is harmonious with your/the patient’s body.

How does the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse work?

The equipment scans the tissue between the two probes or plates, and much like an EKG or EEG, it reads what is normal then corrects electric potential (with trillionth of an ampere to Pico ampere level of micro-current). This level of micro-current increases the production of cell energy (ATP) therefore increasing cell function, increasing detoxification and removing electrical impedance or blockage in the body. The level of impedance can be seen on the biofeedback and tracked throughout the treatment.

What’s the difference between the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse?

The Electro-Acuscope is calibrated to address the brain and, nerves (meridians or electrical pathways) and utilizes a square wave, while the Myopulse is calibrated for connective tissue (bones, muscle, tendon, ligament and even blood) and utilizes a sign wave. Thorp Protocols utilize both machines for optimal results.

How do the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse compare to other TENS/Micro-current Energy devices?

The intelligence (read/treat mechanism) is an advantage of the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse. Most micro-current devices or TENS or galvanic stimulation units are simply output devices that put out about a millionth of an ampere in current, which causes a block of the pain signal or a micro- stimulation of small muscle fiber. The Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse instruments use a read/ treat mechanism, using missile guidance technology. Scanning tissue like an EEG or EKG, they scan what is normal and then deliver a corrective signal down in the trillionth or even Nano of an ampere. The effectiveness of this type of micro-current was substantiated by Nobel Prize Science in 1991, by two scientists, Neher and Sakman. First published in 1976, they determined the mechanism by which cells regulate the voltage across their membranes. Called the patch-clamp method, this technique allows researchers to measure individual ion channels in the cell membrane, electrical currents (amounting to a pico ampere – 1012) that passes through a single ion channel. The technique is unique in that it records how a single channel molecule alters its shape and in that way controls the flow of current within a time frame of a few millionths of a second.

Are there any adverse effects from the Electro-Acuscope and Myopulse?

There are no long-term adverse effects. There is the possibility of an immediate detox or atypical reaction for a small percentage of people. This may include diarrhea, night sweats, headaches, nausea, flu-like symptoms, or increase in pain, etc. An atypical reaction (a.k.a. a healing crisis) is usually followed by a noticeable improvement of the pain or symptom. Atypical or detox reactions are largely preventable by ensuring good hydration and elimination prior to therapy.

How many treatments are recommended?

For most patients, 3-12 treatments are recommended. Treatments are three times a week for a month (preferably three consecutive days each week). Some chronic or severe issues can take more treatment and may require upkeep treatments.

More treatments are more effective and more treatments result in a greater sense of health and wellbeing by improving vital energy (ATP).

What types of issues can be treated?

The pain and/or soft tissue related symptoms occurring in:

• Wound Healing
• Back Pain
• Sports Injuries
• Parkinson’s Disease
• Broken Bones
• Sciatica
• Chronic Fatigue
• Arthritis (Osteo & rheumatoid)
• Multiple Sclerosis
• Plantar Fasciitis
• Neuropathy
• Nerve Entrapment
• Bell’s Palsy
• Fibromyalgia
• Acute & Chronic Back Pain
• Headaches
• Disc injuries / Tendonitis

There is also a Myopulse calibrated specifically for skin or aesthetic-related issues such as scarring, fine lines and various forms of dermatitis.

What are the qualifications to be a certified “Electro Toxicologist”?

To become a certified “Electro Toxicologist” you must be a licensed health care provider or work under the license of a licensed health care provider. (A Physician’s Assistant, Physical therapist assistant or any back office personnel is often the designated person that is trained as the Electro Toxicologist and applies Thorp Certified protocols in a specific order.) Electro Toxicologists treat areas of pain or symptoms as directed by the patient, and they adjust the frequency as the bio-feedback directs.

What can I expect when I go for a treatment?

Prior to beginning treatment, the Doctor or Therapist will discuss your health and ask questions about your situation to determine an appropriate starting point for treatment. It’s best to dress comfortably in sweats or loose clothing. You may need to remove some clothing to facilitate access to the areas of pain/symptom. The practitioner will provide the client with a means to keep the client draped for comfort. (gowns are provided). The Electro Toxicologist may also ask you to demonstrate your range of motion in areas related to your health issue.

Two probes or plates (metal) are placed with botanical- based conductive gel onto the body and then the micro-current is introduced at a level that is often so low you feel nothing, possibly some tapping. If it starts to prick or sting, we turn the intensity down to maintain the patient comfort and a treatment pace that is harmonious with your/the patient’s body.

Why haven’t I heard of this or why isn’t this everywhere?

No training or marketing. While this technology has been available for over 30 years there has been little or no marketing of it and there was no clinical based training ensuring consistent results available.

It Doesn’t Fit Easily into the Medical Model. Each treatment takes 60-90 minutes. The Thorp protocol is 3, preferably consecutive, days and in some cases can take many sessions. This doesn’t fit into any medical or alternative medical practitioner’s time frame. Doctors spend an average of 2-5 minutes; Chiropractors: 7-15 minutes; and Physical Therapists: 20-30 minutes.

Reimbursement is challenging. It is insurance billable as physiotherapy /TENS (Transcutaneous nerve stimulation) therapy (there are various codes it can be covered under). However, it does not have its own code and therefore it is challenging to get reimbursed for the full cost of the therapy.
